How we started
Capital Wheels was born out of a vision to support our Albany community. In 2019, a group of local volunteers conducted a survey and discovered a startling number of our neighbors were eligible for essential benefits like SNAP and Medicaid, yet remained unenrolled. Realizing that many faced transportation barriers to accessing these resources, we brainstormed innovative solutions to bridge this gap.
After much deliberation, the idea of vehicle donation emerged as a sustainable model. By turning forgotten cars into funding for local benefits research, Capital Wheels launched in the heart of Albany. Each car donated helps connect residents with critical programs that can improve their quality of life. This is how we strive to enhance mobility and well-being for everyone in our vibrant city.
Our mission
At Capital Wheels, our mission is to connect Albany residents with the vital resources they deserve. We leverage the vehicle donation model to fund our benefit-research service, helping individuals navigate programs like SNAP, Medicaid, Safety Net Assistance, WIC, and HEAP.
